Public toilets in Reims: the full list of facilities for relieving yourself
More than 40 public toilets are available in the Marne (51100) to relieve all those pressing urges. Find out where to find these facilities, which ones are free and how to access them easily.
Things to remember
Since April 2024, the city of Reims has taken a major step forward in Champagne-Ardenne: 8 JCDecaux self-maintaining toilets are now completely free of charge, joining cities such as Paris, Metz and Strasbourg. In addition to these 8 toilets, there are 2 free seasonal toilets (Palais de Justice and Jardin d’Horticulture), bringing the total to 10 free public toilets. This decision is a response to the issues of public hygiene and human dignity, making everyday life easier for residents and tourists alike.
In total, there are more than 40 public toilets throughout the city, combining the free municipal network with other points that charge a fee or are linked to private establishments.

How it works on a day-to-day basis
Technology and maintenance: These toilets use patented washing and disinfecting solutions. After each use, the cubicle launches a cleaning cycle that lasts 1 to 2 minutes, during which it remains inaccessible.
Dedicated application : The “Sanitaire JC Decaux” application allows you to locate the toilets on an interactive map and get directions on how to get there.
Realities on the ground: These toilets are generally well maintained, but there may be occasional breakdowns or maintenance work, especially after major events. If a cubicle displays “cleaning in progress”, be patient: forcing the door open will only lengthen the disinfection cycle.
Practical advice from residents
Your best bet: Erlon, Promenades and Martyrs de la Résistance are the most reliable and central locations.
On match days: Go to a booth away from the stadium before it gets busy to avoid the queues near the Delaune stadium.
With children: Pack a mini hygiene kit (tissues, hydro-alcoholic gel) and anticipate your needs. The booths offer enough space to manoeuvre with a pushchair.
Changing facilities: Depending on the location, these are more often available in town centres and on promenades, but it’s best not to rely on them systematically.
Beyond the free network
There are over 40 public toilets in the city. In addition to the 10 municipal toilets, you’ll also find :
- Toilets in some municipal parks (open according to park opening hours)
- Toilets near the SNCF train station (generally chargeable)
- Toilets at the Espace d’Erlon (50 cents since November)

The cost of free toilets
This measure represents an investment of €224,000 per year for the local authority (€28,000 per toilet), plus €16,000 in lost revenue. This is a decision taken by the city council for the well-being of the people of Rémois and visitors to the city, as part of the JCDecaux contract signed until 2028.
